East/West 2009

Earlier this afternoon I watched the 2009 edition of the East-West Shrine Game.

I came away from it being immensely impressed with several players. Granted, these are not the ones that will go on day one of the draft but if the Saints can get some more draft pick then they could end up on the team.

I know that there aren’t or shouldn’t be many offensive players drafted by the Saints this year but that is not to say that they could not stand to improve the number one offense in the league. The one thing that this offense had a problem with was its short-yardage rushing attack. No matter who ran the ball it seemed like whoever ran the ball could not get the job done.

On offense, the people that impressed me were:

01. Brian Hoyer-QB-Michigan
02. Hunter Cantwell-QB-Louisville
03.Tom Brandstater-QB-Fresno State
04. Stephen McGee-QB-Texas A&M
05. Gartrell Johnson-RB-Colorado State
06. Ian Johnson-RB-Boise State
07. Marlon Lucky-RB-Nebraska
08. Jararris Williams-RB-Tennessee State
09. Darius Passmore-WR-Marshall
10. Greg Orton-WR-Purdue
11. Aaron Kelly-WR-Clemson
12. Jarrett Dillard-WR-Rice
13. Bear Pascoe-TE-Fresno State

I can’t honestly evaluate offensive linemen because I just did not look close enough at them.

On defense, the people that impressed me were:

01. Myron Pryor-DL-Kentucky
02. Lawrence Sibury-DL-Richmond
03. Johnny Williams-LB-Kentucky
04. Jasper Brinkley-LB-South Carolina
05. Kaluka Maiava-LB-Southern California
06. Victor Butler-LB-Oregon State
07. Darcel McBath-DB-Texas Tech
08. Kevin Ellison-DB-Southern California
09. Cary Harris-DB-Southern California
10. C.J. Spillman-DB-Marshall
11. Curtis Taylor-DB-LSU

And that is the list.

If the team can somehow finagle a few extra draft picks then that is a few of the players that they should look at.
