It now appears that I was way off base about the LSU men basketball team.
At the beginning of the year, I thought that they would be no better than an NIT contender. There were a myriad of reasons why I thought this was the case. I was looking at the fact that this was a new coach, with another coaches players, trying to install new system.
I was wrong.
These kids have so thoroughly bought into what coach Johnson wants to do. They are playing tough defense. The most important thing is that there is an actual offensive system and a coach that knows how to do his job. He knows when to call time outs, when to diagram special plays, and what psychological buttons to push with his players to get them to play up to his potential.
It now appears that they are on their way to the big dance that is the NCAA basketball tournament. This, in my opinion, is gravy.
